<Note: This is an edited re-post of an earlier article that appeared in a Telegram only weekly newsletter>
We kicked off the very first Level Up session by diving into a crucial but often overlooked topic—giving and receiving feedback.
Whether you're leading a team, working cross-functionally, or simply looking to grow, the way we approach feedback can make or break trust, morale, and performance.
The core framework we explored was SBI (Situation-Behavior-Impact), a simple but powerful tool to structure feedback in a way that’s clear, specific, and non-judgmental.
Rather than resorting to vague praise or criticism, SBI helps you zero in on what happened, what was observed, and why it mattered—making it easier for others to understand and respond constructively.
In our f2f session we also covered Radical Candor, a model that challenges us to “care personally and challenge directly.”
It's a reminder that effective feedback is rooted in relationship—not just technique. If you want your input to land, people need to know it’s coming from a place of respect, not judgment.
Another useful tool from Radical Candor was the “HIP” checklist - a handy acronym to keep in mind before you deliver feedback that is:
Together, these approaches gave us a toolkit not just for saying the right thing, but for fostering a feedback culture that builds psychological safety, a shared belief that team members can express ideas, ask questions, and admit mistakes without fear of negative consequence.

Thanks again to everyone who joined our first-ever session and helped set the tone for what Level Up can be—practical, reflective, and fun.
Here’s to more honest conversations that help us all grow.
