What if learning felt more like a game - AND still delivered real impact?
In our recent f2f session on enterprise gamification, we explored how game design principles can drive motivation, spark creativity, and even help us build better habits.
Whether through points, progress bars, or playful constraints, the essence of gamification is simple: making things more engaging without losing their depth.
The Octalysis Framework
At the heart of our f2f workshop was the Octalysis Framework by Yu-kai Chou, which breaks motivation down into 8 core drives - from meaning and mastery to ownership and social influence.
This lens is powerful not just for designing games, but for rethinking how we approach learning, behavior change, and workplace engagement.
Other Gamification Learning Resources
While our f2f session focused on Octalysis and how it might be applied in both personal habit building and team collaboration, the topic of gamification itself is vast one with a range of diverse ideas.
If you’re curious to go deeper into the subject, here are some resources to explore:
▶️ 10K Hours of Play
yukaichou.com/10k-hp
A personal series by Yu-kai Chou on how to apply gamification more directly in your own life - with surprising insights into productivity, self-development, and joy.
🕹️ Gametize
corp.gametize.com/app-store
A Singapore based company that provides a no-code platform to create your own gamified challenges, based on their 6D framework. Great for team learning or personal habit experiments.
✒️ Wee Write
wee-write.com
This is the blog of Edward Wee, the guest speaker for the event who writes gamification, emerging tech, and human-centred design -especially in manufacturing and maintenance contexts.
Ultimately, Gamification isn’t just about badges and leaderboards.
It’s about designing better experiences - ones that tap into what truly drives us. Start small. Stay curious. And see what shifts.
🕹️ Until next time - keep levelling up, one thoughtful move ♞at a time
